Two short films produced by the Knights of Columbus for Everyday Heroes Season 3 were honored with regional Emmy Awards this year.
“Hero on the Hudson” received top honors in the category “In the Human Interest – Short Form Content” at the New York Emmys on Oct. 28. “Hero on the Hudson” tells the story of Vince Lombardi, the New York Waterway ferry captain who was the first to respond to US Airways Flight 1549 when it landed in the Hudson River in January 2009. Lombardi is a past grand knight of Montclair (N.J.) Council 1277.
At the Southeast Emmy Awards in Atlanta on June 17, “Building a Platform of Academic Success” won an Emmy in the category “Societal Concerns – Short Form Content.” The film highlights the work of David Chamberlain and his brother Knights of St. John Vianney Council 12580 in Lithia Spring, Georgia, to build desks for local children who suddenly had to go to school remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Everyday Heroes, a documentary series produced by the Order since 2018, shares inspiring stories about Knights courageously living their faith and the Order’s mission of charity in the modern world. All three seasons can be viewed at kofc.org/heroes.
